Dr. Tamara Beckstead BSc. DVM
Dr. Tamara Beckstead graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Guelph in 1993 after having 1st received her Bachelor of Science degree from Guelph in 1988. Post graduation Dr. Beckstead practiced veterinary medicine in Toronto for 3 years honing her skill sets in medecine, surgery and customer service. In 1996 Tamara purchased the Silvercreek Annimal Hospital in Guelph where she has been working as the solo veterinarian for the past almost 20 years. As of December 2015 Tamara has become the proud owner of Heritage Veterinary Hospital, which she has “inherited” from her good friend and fellow classmate/collegue Dr. Jan Osuch. Tamara has worked on/off over the years at Heritage filling in for holidays as required so she is very familiar with the staff and how Heritage has been successfully running. When not wearing her vet hat Tamara is an avid rider and has had the pleasure of owning 3 horses to date. First there was Joshua, a very functional Thoroughbred Quarterhorse cross that Tamara purchased in her 1st year of vet school, then there was French Escapade (aka Frenchie), a retired but very regal and successful Thoroughbred off the track and now there is Modesty, a beautiful Hanoverian Warmblood exbroodmare. All 3 of Tamara’s mounts had successfully competed with her in the world of 3 day eventing. Currently Modesy and Tamara enjoy taking weekly dressage and jumping lessons and are members of the Waterloo Wellington Hunt Club (a drag hunt). When not working or riding Tamara enjoys spending time at the local YMCA where she can be found in the pool. Other sporty interests include running/roller blading or cycling around the country roads out in Eden Mills where she lives her partner Don and their 2 children William and Marcus (fraternal twins). Other family members include: Snap, Crackle and Pop (3 beautiful DMH cats, a beautiful orange tabby, a striking dark calico and a jet black boy), Blue, Lilly and Bella (all rescue puppies (2 sibling mutts and a Chihuahua)), Rax the 3rd (a bugg eyed goldfish), Twee Dee Bird (the 4th or 5th?, a peach faced Love Bird) and finally Harry (a Tarantula) and no she/he isn’t dangerous at all, just a bit prickly. It has been Tamara’s lifelong dream to be a veterinarian and now she is the proud owner of 2 successful businesses. Tamara is very excited to meet with the many loyal clients of Heritage and is eager to continue to provide knowledgeable and compassionate medical care to all. Tamara will endeavour to provide the best customer service possible to one in all, so please if you have any questions or concerns do not hestitate to speak with her. Tamara looks forward to meeting with all Heritage clients and their 4 legged (and even 2 legged) loved ones over the coming months.
